Nimali Tarangire a piece of Heaven on Earth

Tarangire National Park, Tanzania

The day started early with a quick morning coffee mug and we set out to Tarangire for a day’s safari with planned lunch at the Nimali Tarangire.
We arrived at Tarangire mid-morning and started our drive as we made some unscheduled stops on some of the accommodation properties to check on the current status of the camps and lodges. We managed to spot quite an array of wildlife among the Elusive Leopard, Giraffes, the obvious Tarangire Residents, – The Elephants, troupes of Baboons among other numerous wildlife of the Tarangire Eco system.

The Tarangire was equally quiet with very few vehicles around due to the ongoing Covid Pandemic and we had quite some intimate moments with the wildlife.

We made a quick exit at around lunch hour and drove out of Tarangire and back into the highway towards Makuyuni. A short drive on the highway and we were driving among the Masai villages as we snaked our way towards the Randilen Wildlife management area (WMA).

The Randilen Wildlife Management Area

The Nimali Tarangire is located outside the Tarangire national Park on a wildlife Management Area – The Randilen. There is a direct access from the park but due to the ongoing rains, we opted for a slightly longer route. Better safe than sorry as the African Muddy terrain can sometimes be quite unforgiving.

Suddenly we came around a rocky outcrop and a sudden halt our guide indicated we had arrived at the Rendilen area and could hike on the nearby view point. This was the main entrance to the Randilen Wildlife Management area, quite hidden among the bushes  on a rocky outcrop. A quick hike up the Kopje and the views up the viewieng deck got us wowed. Beautiful stretching landscape as far as the eye could see.

We drove into the conservancy and off to a great start meeting up with Elephants, Hartebeest and Gazelles. We arrived at the Nimali Tarangire and were welcomed by Reuben the Manager at Nimali. We opted for a quick tour of the camp before settling for Lunch.
The Randilen Wildlife Management area is a private area and you enjoy the privacy of private game drive since only vehicles with guests on safari sleeping in the few accommodations here are allowed to access the area on safari.

The Nimali Tarangire Luxury Camp

The Nimali Tarangire is located on the banks of a dry river bed overlooking the Randilen landscape. Its an isolated camp with utmost serenity and the tents are well spaced for privacy. The Nimali Camp has 8 Tents spacious and tastefully furnished with a mix of contemporary African and modern luxury furnishing. From the deck you can enjoy the wildlife as they roam the Tarangire and Randilen Wildlife areas. As we chatted on with our host Reuben, we inquired about the wild feel and animals often seen from camp. Well this as a tricky one since we are looking for the wildest encounters at camp. Reuben shared the encounters at camp viewed up close and we were awed not too sure they were real or geared to get our adrenalin running, well there was one story that really caught our attention about a lion pride that lives around the camp…Hold your breath.

As we walked back to the restaurant, we stopped at the swimming pool as he explained the facilities at Camp and under a distant brush, we saw a Lioness walk casually right across the waterhole facing the restaurant…SIMPLY AMAZING EXPERIENCE. This got us really excited and I could see his satisfaction at the confirmation of the wild encounters at Nimali Tarangire. We had spent all morning looking for Lions at Tarangire only for them to come looking for us at camp. Breathtaking!!
Well.. with all the adrenalin rushing and everyone exited, we sat down for lunch with the encounters feeding our conversations at the table. Sadly our short visit to Nimali was over and we had to hit the road back to business as we drove out of the amazing Randilen and back to the road.

Our Thoughts about Nimali Tarangire

The Nimali Tarangire is a must add on your Tanzania Safari itinerary. We would advise a minimum stay of two nights to be able to explore the Tarangire and Randilen Wildlife management area. Other activities available at the Randilen include, walking, Night Game drives, Sun-downers and also some downtime at the camp to enjoy the wildlife and peace at the camp.  This is a great camp and location for Families, Couples on honeymoon of just on a luxury Tanzania Safari.
Nimali Tarangire Camp for us remains the best accommodation for your stay while at Tarangire Tanzania.
