Samburu National Reserve is located north of Kenya. The Samburu comprises of three national reserves ie the buffalo, Shaba and Samburu National reserve all clustered together and located on the banks of the Ewaso Ngiro River. Their ecology is defined by the contrasting habitats of riverine forest along the Ewaso Ngiro River and the austere acacia scrub and rocky slopes extending outwards from the river. Samburu offers the best opportunity of sighting the Leopard in Kenya, Lion, and Elephant. The main attraction is the host of dry country specials absent or rare in most other East African parks. These are commonly referred to as the Samburu Five animals. These are the Grevy Zebra, Somali Ostrich, Long Necked Gerenuk, Reticulated Giraffe and Beisa Oryx.

Explore Samburu
The Ewaso Ngiro River is an important source of water for this complex dry country reserve. The Ewaso is a perennial river emanating from the slopes of the Aberdare ranges providing water for the mammals of Samburu. Another important source of water is the Buffalo Spring which bubbles from the earth a short drive from the Ewaso River and attracts a steady stream of thirsty Gazelles Giraffes, Zebra and other Ungulates. The Northern scrubland is especially rewarding for bird watchers. Two of the more eye catching species are the vulturine guinea fowl and the yellow throated spur fowl both of which spend much of the time scurrying on the ground along the margins of the road.
