SUNSETS FROM AFRICA
It is always a special moment to see the sun set and rise from anywhere you are in the world. Different places around the globe offer other sunset moments, and a sunset from a city or residential area would significantly differ from a sunset taken from the open wilderness. We bring you stories and moments taken from the wild with friends and travelers we have shared with the African wilderness experience. We will also share tips on making the best of it and enjoying every Sunset and photography idea. We hope this gives inspiration to every Sunset you get to see every day and appreciate these small moments.
SUNSETS WHILE ON SAFARI
As we travel quite often and spend most of our time in the bush, guiding and traveling, my best sunset moments are in Kenya and Tanzania. Most memorable of them has been specifically in Masai Mara and Serengeti, though other national parks offer different perspectives into the Sunset. Masai Mara is in Kenya, and Serengeti is in Tanzania. I still get the best moments out of the open wild spaces of Serengeti and Masai Mara.
SUNSET IN MASAI MARA
The Masai Mara National Reserve is one of Kenya’s most visited National reserves. Outstanding characteristics of the Masai Mara are the open plains dotted with riverine forests and acacias spread over the Savannah. The equator straddles Kenya; days and nights are virtually the same. The Sun will set out between 0615 to 0630, which is the best time to capture the sunrise before it gets too bright. For the Sunset, between 0620 Hours to 0630 Hours. However, these timings may vary slightly during different seasons of the year. For instance, in January and February, the Sunset r by about half an hour and the sunrise earlier by about the same time difference.
SUNSET PHOTOGRAPHY IN MASAI MARA KENYA
In Masai Mara, numerous opportunities exist to explore the Sunset and Sunrises. There are also different ways in which you can photograph Sunsets. There is all time classical cliché of the Acacia and the Sun positioned differently depending on your preference. There are, however, many ways you could take the Landscape. One of my favorites is with an animal in the background. You can best achieve positioning as a silhouette with the setting Sun relatively low against the subject. This Image would be achieved better with a Zoom lens to give the Sun a more prominent appearance and more effect on the overall Image.
A significant way to take sunset or sunrise photos is to use the Live View on the Camera. The reason is that looking at the Sun from a zoom lens or just a standard camera would be very hard on the eyes due to the light. Below are some images we took while on safari in Masai Mara, Kenya.
SERENGETI
Serengeti equally has open, unending rolling landscapes. One unique feature of the Serengeti is the rocky outcrops, referred to as Kopjes. These Kopjes offer excellent opportunities to photograph the Lions against the Sunset with great results. However, this will take quite some level of skill and patience to get that perfect Sunset.
