There are some vital components when looking to travel to Kenya.
1. The choice of parks or destinations to visit
2. Best time to travel to visit Kenya
3. What weather to expect while on safari
We will examine some of the essential points listed above to help you plan for that perfect safari in Kenya.

The Choice of Destination Parks to Visit Kenya

There are numerous National Parks and reserves spread over the republic of Kenya. It is impossible to visit all of them in one go, and therefore we will look at some of the most important and best regarding wildlife and Landscape viewing. One of the highlights will always be the Masai Mara.

The Masai Mara stands out as one of the most visited and offers Kenya’s best wildlife viewing opportunities. The Mara has some of the best Big Cat populations making the Mara a must-see attraction when planning your visit to Kenya. Also, it’s at the Masai Mara when the Wildebeest Migration happens annually, with hundreds of thousands of Wildebeest and Zebra trekking and crossing Crocodile infested rivers. If you are looking at witnessing the wildebeest migration, the Masai Mara is the only location in Kenya playing host to this spectacle.
Amboseli is an attraction worth experiencing in Kenya. This park hosts some of the largest Elephant herds in Kenya all year round. You can Visit Amboseli any time of the year. Amboseli is a flat salty pan with marshes and offers the best Photographic and viewing of Kilimanjaro – The Highest standing Mountain in Africa.

Lewa and Samburu are semi-arid reserves and fiercely beautiful. Located in the northern frontier district of Kenya, this reserve hosts some rare species not found in other areas of Kenya. These species include the Grevy Zebra, Reticulate Giraffe, Oryx, Somali Ostrich, and Long neck Gerenuk. This spectacular reserve has a healthy population of elephants, Lions, and Leopards. The Landscape in this reserve is beautiful and gives some great photographic opportunities.
The common mass of Tsavo West and Tsavo East consists of Kenya’s most significant wildlife-protected areas. Tsavo West & East National Parks are some of the least regarded but offer an intimate safari experience. The Tsavo West is scenic and largely unexplored with a dazzling array of wildlife, i.e., Leopards, Wild Dogs, Lions, Elephants, cheetahs, and numerous bird species. One major attraction is the freshwater spring emanating from the heart of the arid park, which offers a refuge for Hippos and some exotic aquatic fish species.

The Tsavo East is expansive and wooded grassland. The Tsavo is extensive, with the largest population of free-roaming Elephants in Kenya. Wildlife congregates during the dry season congregate along the streams and rivers traversing the park.
A combination of the above attractions to form an ideal safari itinerary can be done by road or flying from one destination to another. In organizing that perfect safari, we recommend taking about three different parks or reserves and maximizing the experience in these destinations. Passing between the parks could be pricey but offers and different perspective into the Kenya Landscape and saves time between the goals. For a drive-through safari, you need to get an experienced safari advisor who will look at the budget and number of days and curate a perfect safari proposal that touches on the locations of interest while minimizing the drive times.

Best Time to Visit Kenya

The Wildebeest Migration happens around July to September, and this is the only season during which you will witness the Migration. To experience the Wildebeest Migration out of this season, we would advise a Tanzania Safari where the Wildebeest are migrating during the other months of the year. Although Migration is one of the highlights in Masai Mara Kenya, it attracts many visitors, which sometimes might be a downside. It tends to scale down in September with the Migration still on but fewer crowds. If you prefer quiet downtime, we recommend traveling from September onwards. A great time to visit when the herds are still around. The subsequent Months of October to March also provide great Wildlife opportunities and are a great time to travel as they are the drier seasons of the year.
